So the New year starts with a zest of positiveness and the zeal to prove itself. Every year I feel that I will make a change and that never happens as how I see it. My welcome to the new year was at home cuddled with a book and checking my phone with what the world was upto.
My family in Delhi on the other hand were enjoying the Malaysian sun. They were having a blast there, literary seeing the blast of fireworks over the twin towers. G was in US watching his current obsession with Telugu movies.
Now G is not attached to dates as such, meaning every day is a new day for him and he doesn't single out a day like valentines or New Year or even his birthday to display affection or special attention. He does that everyday. Whereas I on the other hand, am quite attached to certain dates such as my birthday or any day of universal or national celebration.
I guess it might be so because I come from a family who love to celebrate everyday things like 'So you passed the exam, that calls for a party!' or ' You survived a day without sweets, that surely deserves a celebration'. You get the picture. So it was odd initially when G was nonchalant about his birthday while I made a huge fuss about the day. We have blended well together, so now he does display occasional excitement on such days to humor me. Whereas I allow him to fuss over me all the other days!
So G is not the conventional romantic, I would call him practical and logical in the most poetic manner possible.
I randomly receive a mail with a shopping link from G and I get excited!
Me *thinking* So is it a link for an early New years gift?
I click on the link and it opens up a page where there is a photograph of a portable urinal for ladies which they can take while travelling
Me: I must have clicked a wrong link somehow, lets try it again.... Its again leading to the same page.
A little while later:
G: So did you check out the link I sent you?
Me: Yes I did, for some reason its directing me to a portable ladies urinal site!
G: Yes that's what I wanted you to take a look at. Isn't it brilliant. I mean imagine not hunting for toilets while travelling or being afraid of exposing too much. This can make you feel truly liberated
Me: God! I thought you sent me some jewelry or gadget link. I do not need a portable urinal!
G: But it is useful... hear me out atleast *went on to explain a million uses of the same* So what do you think?
Me*defeated* : Very useful!
G*excitedly*: Should I order you one then?
Me: NO!
Next day...
I receive yet another link and this time I am hopeful again!
Me: So this link that you have sent me, titled 'You might find it interesting'. Dare I click on it?
G: Oh Yes! it is something which will be very useful to you, I will even guide you through it. Please click on the link and tell me what you see
Me: It opens to a bank site, UPI information......
G: See this is that new thing that the government has started and you will find it very useful, you need to download an app....*Detailed information of the same*
Me: Really G are you doing this on purpose!
G: Doing what? I really think it will be useful, don't you?
Me*mumbling*: ummm..sure
Well G does occasionally surprises me and plans it out effectively as well. But the direct person he is, he would rather ask me what I need and exactly get me that.
Its the little things that is important, kind words, support and unconditional love which should be of utmost value. Yes I enjoy being showered with gifts and surprises but that I can still do without but not without the former.
There are special days in all our lives, but the important thing is to make ordinary days special and enjoy everyday as a new one. Here's wishing everyone a happy new year and may each day bring fresh challenges that motivates us to become a better person.
